The Cascade Range crosses the state of Washington by dividing it into two parts, western Washington and eastern Washington, the couple is very diverse both in characteristics and in climate.

Washington's proximity to water made it a major Pacific Ocean trade with a diverse mix of locals, from Scandinavians to Native Americans. That said, Washington is a huge state, and there are other smaller cities to choose from as well.
